Absences cost business and organisations millions of pounds each year. The average UK employee takes 8.4 days off sick per year, or 3.7% of working time, and this accounts for around £650 lost revenue per employee (CIPD, July 2007); and whether a large or small organisation this is not an amount to be ignored.
